Fellow No. 00268
Mr Llewellyn Penrhyn
In the chair at the Twelfth Extraordinary General Meeting of 24th October 1962, on which occasion he proposed and carried the Audibility Resolution. His remark — "Punctuation is the most important part of the language. The apostrophe is a punctuation mark. The apostrophe must therefore be the most audible part of the word in which it occurs. The matter is not, on this view, contestable." — is engraved on the lintel above the door of the Society’s principal meeting room.
